    The Committee

This group which consists of all the officers, who all stand for election each year, and our lead volunteers, meets 3 or 4 times a year.

We decide on all matters of policy and strategy here, approve budgets, discuss the summer holiday plans and decide on fundraising and child and family selection which are dealt with in smaller groups.

    What we Offer

We provide a week’s self catering seaside holiday, currently at Timber Hill,Broad Haven,Pembrokeshire (click on link below) to the children and families we select.Holidays run from Saturday afternoon until the following Saturday morning in July or august each year.

Families usually arrange their own transport there and back, though we can help with costs in appropriate cases. We provide a welcoming meal and basic stores  and a range of daily activities ,games and other entertainments for the children.Their parents often join in with our volunteers. Some families rely on us to structure their week ,others prefer to do this  themselves each day. We leave it up to the families to organize their day to day arrangements. We are on hand each day to help and advise.

We can organize beach trips and games, outings to theme parks, boating or riding and we generally pay for one such visit for each family. We also arrange a childrens’ party to help the families get to know each other better.

We regard the parents as the primary carers for the children during those weeks though we are on hand to help and assist. We do not provide specialist nursing or medical care though we can arrange it.

How referrals are made and how we choose children and families

We have a subcommittee which is well connected with the John Radcliffe and other Oxford hospitals and other referring charities, authorities and institutions.

An application is made to us in writing by one of the professionals or other agency caring for the child. We then consider the holiday needs of the child and the family, the medical condition of the child and our capacity to provide a suitable holiday for that child.
